The dramatic role of the prophetess Cassandra is shared by Italian soprano Anna Caterina Antonacci, who received enthusiastic reviews in this production at its London premiere, and rising star mezzo-soprano Daveda Karanas. San Francisco Opera presents the long-awaited return of one of the most significant pieces in the operatic repertoire-Berlioz’s The Trojans set to a text by the composer and based on Virgil’s classical poem the Aeneid. The resplendent cast is headlined by the “vocally sumptuous and alluring” ( New York Times) mezzo-soprano Susan Graham and powerful tenor Bryan Hymel, who gives “an impassioned and confident performance of a heroic role” ( New York Times), as the ill-fated lovers Dido and Aeneas.
